Face jewelry

Two artist designers Solomon Chase and David Toro inspired by ancient Indian tradition of face adorning designed interesting line of face jewelry.

So far the collection consists of: BindiFace, Reflector Face (jewelry glows in dark), Eyebrow and Reflector Brow (glows in dark).

“Bindi” comes from the word “bindu” or a drop, and suggests the mystic third eye of a person. The Bindi are worn as a beauty mark by women of all faiths, with no adherence of Hindu belief. This mark also serves to indicate marital status. The Hindus believe that a red Bindi should be worn by women who are married and a black Bindi is worn by single girls. But nowadays, Bindis are also worn by women who are not married, children, and by women who are not Hindu.

This jewelry can be perceived as a medium of self-expression, as each piece can reflect the personality behind the face. The whole collection is colorful and fun. The whole collection is colorful and fun. It is definitely an interesting concept.

The Most Powerful Women Of 2008

Angela Merkel

Like every year Forbes has just published the list of the most powerful and influential women in the world. The “power” was measured as a combination of public profile and financial heft. The economic component of the ranking considers job title and past career accomplishments, as well as the amount of money the woman controls. A chief executive "controls" the revenue of her business, for instance, while a head of state gets the country's gross domestic product.

Women nominated for the list are globally recognized women at the top of their fields: chief executives and their highest-ranked lieutenants, elected officials, nonprofit leaders. They don't have to be rich, but they do have to wield significant influence. This year, an architect, a war correspondent and several foundation executives all won spots on the list.

In 2008 the world’s most powerful woman is Angela Merkel (third time), German’s chancellor. Second place belongs to Sheila Bair, head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the embattled U.S. bank-deposit insurer. Indra Nooyi (No 3) of PepsiCo, the highest-ranked woman in business is followed by Angela Braly (No. 4) the head of big health insurer WellPoint. Fifth place belongs to Cynthia Carroll who is leading mining giant Anglo-American. Kraft’s chief Irene Rosenfeld ranks number six. Number 7 belongs to politician Condoleezza Rice - U.S. Secretary of State in Bush administration. Ho Ching the head of Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek and owner of 15% of Merrill Lynch ranks number 8. Anne Lauvergeon the head of France based Areva company is listed on the 9th place. Anne Mulcahy (No. 10) has doubled her research and development budget to focus on color printing and eco-friendly technologies. Senator Hillary Clinton (28th place) was named the woman with the highest profile.

In total, the women ranked on Forbe’s list control $26 trillion worldwide. Although female leaders continue to climb higher, only 46% of the American jobs are held by women and less than 3% of the country's biggest companies have female chief executives, according to research nonprofit Catalyst.

Million Dollar Pearl Necklace

Million Dollar Pearl Necklace

Mikimoto company, famous for the pearl jewelry, designed a pearl necklace with a price tag of one million dollars. The necklace consists of 27 pearls and the art deco clasp decorated with 11.92 carats diamonds.

The pearls are AAA rated which means they are of the highest-quality and virtually flawless. Their surface has a very high luster, and at least 95% of the surface is free from any type of defect. Pearls used in the necklace are South Sea pearls, which are among the largest commercially harvested cultured pearls in the world. The average size of a South Sea pearl is 13 mm, with most harvests producing a range of sizes from 9 mm to 20 mm. The pearls are cultured in northwestern Australia, where the ocean currents and high nutrient seawater promote the growth of extra large pearls. These waters are the native habitat of a large oyster known as Pinctada maxima. This oyster grows up to 12 inches in diameter, and can be nucleated with a much larger bead than other saltwater oysters. South Sea pearls have several distinct characteristics that are unique to this gem: satiny luster that comes from the rapidly deposited nacre and warm waters of the South Seas and subtle array of colors; typically white, silver, and golden, that are rare in other pearl types.

If you are interested in this necklace you should know it is a limited edition piece available from the New York branch of the Mikimoto company.

Astrology And Finances

Astrology

Those who believe in astrology say it works. They claim that the stars and planets have huge influence on our life. We should pay special attention to the arrangement of planets and stars when making important decisions. Many big financial institutions and banks turn to the stars to predict future trends, economy and markets.

In England seemingly conservative British institutions such as City investments funds and high street banks cooperate on regular basis with the growing network of astrologers. Christeen Skinner, one of the astrologers says “Most academics distrust astrology and regard it as mumbo-jumbo (…) The thing is, it works. Nobody's sure how it works but it does. Most of my clients are businesspeople who are very canny. If it didn't work for them, then why would they use it?” Skinner practices the heliocentric astrology. This astrology uses a map which contains the positions of the planets within the reference frame of the twelve signs of the zodiac. Each planet plays a different role and influences individually our way of thinking and behavior. For example Mercury usually has good influence on communication. However, a few times per year Mercury slows down in its orbit around the Sun, creating an illusion of backward movement. When Mercury is in retrograde, communication can seem to slow down, misfire or go haywire with missed calls and technological snafus. This is why there’s a warning against signing contracts or starting a project during Mercury retrograde.

Many world leaders and military figures are known to plan their lives and campaigns to avoid Mercury’s influence. Ronald Reagan and Boris Yeltsin would only travel and hold press conferences when the planets, specifically Mercury, dictated. Hitler notably failed to take into account Mercury's influence. He launched the Battle of Britain and planned Operation Sealion - the invasion of Britain - just as Mercury turned retrograde. Both mistakes dealt serious blows to his plans for world domination.

On the other hand some scientists doubt that planets have influence over us. Dr Percy Seymour, from Plymouth University, has his own theory of how this inexact science might work. He believes that low-frequency magnetic fields emanating from the sun interact with those of the earth, which in turn affect the functioning of the human brain. "The magnetic field of the sun can be affected by the movement and position of the planets," he says. "Having said all that, I don't believe that the cosmos controls us, but it can influence us."

About Amber - The Genesis

Amber

Recent years have witnessed growing interest in amber especially in amber jewelry and ornaments.

Apart from amber-ornamented jewelry, big-size objects are manufactured more and more often, such as caskets, candlesticks, mugs, pictures and also furniture. Amber has also found its way into churches. For example, a monumental amber altar decorates the Church of St. Bridget in Gdansk. The project is comparable to the historic spacial arrangement known as the Amber Room.

History of amber began from trees, 40 million years ago. Trees responsible for creating amber were pine trees which excessively secreted resin. Widely used infrared technique in current studies on amber shows clear differences between the resin of contemporary pine species and the Baltic Amber. The reasons for increased resin discharge have not yet been unambiguously explained either. It is believed that resin exudation increases during warm and humid weather and amount of resin exuded in forests is larger the closer they are to the equator. It is also believed that changes in resin exudation might have been caused by volcanoes known to be active in North Sea area. However, the observation of particularly strong resin exudation of various trees even today, leads to the conclusion that rich amber deposits could have been formed from tress naturally exuding resin as their living process.
