If you watched this year’s Emmy Awards, you have probably noticed the abundance of diamonds. The organizers emphasized the Award’s diamond anniversary with diamond chandelier dangling above the stage and celebrities made fashion statements with bold jewelry.

Fashion winners included Sandra Oh in a stunning Oscar de la Renta retro-style black lace dress with a ribbon sash and an icey 5.5 carats of emerald cut, Bulgari diamonds on each ear. America Ferrara wore Fred Leighton 19th Century diamond flower necklace, paired with 2.5-carat, old mine-cut diamond pendant earrings, a rose-cut cluster bracelet and a 19th century diamond line bracelet. Heidi Klum chose butterfly earrings and Brooke Shields and Nicolette Sheridan dazzled in the season’s hottest colors: fuchsia and plum. The most anticipated appearance was Christina Applegate’s who captured stylists’ attention with fancy colored chandelier earrings and a trendy asymmetrical Reem Acra gown with metallic patches.

Empty Nest-When Children Leave Home

24 Sep 2008 In: Mommy & Family
My child went to collage this year. She left our home and it feels really empty. I came across this article “When children leave” written by Karen Stabiner and I wanted to share it with other mothers who go through the same emotions.
The author says that empty nest, sounds neat, spare and tidy, but it can be a messy time. When children arrive, they upend our routines, our sense of self and our work-to-life ratios. We expect that. But when those same children leave, everything goes topsy-turvy again, changing work and life in ways we might not predict. In her article Karen says: “When my firstborn leaves, followed three years later by his brother, they will be off on a journey of self-discovery — and so will their father and I. For years, I have squeezed work into a corner to make room for family life, vaguely aware of a parallel reality where my time might be my own. Will I fill that space with work again, or will the ability to concentrate lose its appeal once it is actually possible? Will it in fact be possible?”
Natalie Caine who runs Empty Nest Syndrome Support Services has seen whole spectrum of reactions. Some love the freedom and some are sick with sorrow. We have to remember that grief will fade with years and there will be many times when children need us again.

If you like non-standard and eccentric jewelry, Julia Golan’s creations may be for you. She is a 26 years old Israeli artist who makes wearable art jewelry including this bonsai tree. She works with leather, wire, bead, fake moss and grass. Her creations are usually nature or fashion inspired.

She began designing jewelry four years ago inspired by her great-grandmother who was an actress in the theatre and used to make all her costume jewelry by herself. Julia loves experimenting with material possibilities and uses basic leatherwork techniques like burning, cutting and dyeing.

Her creations can be seen on Deviant Art and Picasa websites.

478 Carat Diamond

22 Sep 2008 In: Fashion & Jewelry, Gadget

A stone, which may become the largest diamond in the world, has been discovered by miners in Letseng Mine in Lesotho (South Africa). The mine is already famous for delivering three of the world’s largest diamonds: the 603-carat Lesotho Promise, the 493-carat Leteng Legacy and the 601-carat Lesotho Brown. The massive 478 carat diamond found recently is the 20th largest rough diamond ever discovered.

The diamond, has the potential to yield a 150 carat cut stone, and could sell for tens of millions of dollars. A similar but smaller-sized rough stone has recently been valued at $12 million. Preliminary examination of the diamond indicates that stone has a remarkable clarity and color. It would be bigger than the 105 carat round-cut Koh-i-Noor diamond, which is part of the British Crown Jewels but still smaller than the Cullinan diamond discovered in 1905, which was 3,106 carats uncut and yielded a teardrop shaped diamond of 530 carats called the Great Star of Africa.

Diamond chandelier

When you watch this year’s 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, pay attention to the decorative chandelier illuminating the green room at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The chandelier is crafted of more than 3,300 perfectly cut diamonds and worth an estimated $10 million. Handmade in Boston by a team led by HOF jewelry designer Katherine Rosenberg Pineau, the "Hearts On Fire Diamond Chandelier" totals more than 1,000 carats. The three-tiered structure is plated with platinum and has a sleek design consisting of a series of diamond strands illuminated by fiber optics.

The lighting fixture will hang in the center of the 625-square-foot green room, located offstage at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre and accessible only by Emmy nominees and presenters.

If you would like to buy the chandelier for your home it is going to be for sale after the show.
