This 15 year-old Maltese is probably the wealthiest dog in the world. His owner Riwin Jirapolsek has designed for him a $4.2 million tiara. The couture creation is made out of titanium and over 250 carats of emeralds and diamonds which came from the designer’s mother jewelry collection.

While the piece was showcased the jewelry designer announced his plans to make additional accessories for his pet. He told Reuters: "I will make a hair clip next time because my dog has to wear clips everyday otherwise its fur will block its view."

Is Price of Amber Going to Go Up?

29 Apr 2009 In: Fashion & Jewelry

For years the demand for amber jewelry has been growing while the supply of high quality Baltic amber has been decreasing. The main source of Baltic amber – the mines in Sambia (Kaliningrad region) remain under water after flooding in 2004. It is estimated that the production of raw amber is down to 90% comparing to what it was just a few years ago. Amber gathering from Polish beaches and fishing for amber in the sea are too expensive, time consuming and labor intensive to fulfill the market’s demand. Therefore the manufacturers of amber are looking for new deposits and working with local governments to speed up the process of granting mining licenses.

As the supply of raw amber continues to shrink, Polish amber producers have become quite sophisticated with their designs and their marketing strategies. Today’s styles incorporate much more sterling silver than amber and rely on design, craftsmanship and quality amber as major selling points.

Unfortunately with increasing costs of amber mining the prices of amber products are going to go up. Therefore it is a great time now to buy amber jewelry and take advantage of 10 % off offer on all amber jewelry from Amberdesire.com.

Remember to enter code MOTHER during checkout. And hurry, this offer expires on May 11th.

Dior’s Mysterious Watch

28 Apr 2009 In: Fashion & Jewelry

The new Christal Mysterieuse Watch by Dior is definitely a head turner. Although it looks intriguing it might be not too practical since it is very difficult to figure out what time it is. The dial of the watch is always moving at a slow rate. The Dior Christal Mysterieuse is named as such for the special Quinting manufacture movement that has three rotating plates. One for the hours, minutes and day. With this constant altering look of the dial, it appears the same only once a month. This way you can never really have any frames of reference to read the hands. The watch is that result of the work of five engineering.

If you don’t care much about its functionality you can buy this beautiful piece this Fall for approximately $26,000 USD. The bezel design of the timepiece features black sapphire plates and various shades of mother of pearl. The case is water resistant to 50 meters, and is attached to an alligator strap.

Hayden Panettiere an actress known for playing Claire Bennet on the NBC television series Heroes was a victim of home burglary last week and lost $15,000 worth of jewelry and some personal items. The young star discovered the robbery when she returned home from a five-day vacation in Australia. No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.

Even if you are not a big fan of Kate Moss you will probably admit that these pictures for the upcoming May issue of Vogue magazine shot by Annie Leibovitz are simply gorgeous.

In the editorial Kate Moss is accompanied by New York designer Marc Jacobs and the singer Justin Timberlake. The editorial was shot for this year's ultra-glamorous Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4.

The theme of this year's annual benefit and exhibition is 'The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion'. Jacobs, whose muses have included Chloe Sevigny, Sofia Coppola, Lindsay Lohan and Victoria Beckham, is to oversee proceedings as guest chairman, while Moss and Timberlake will be co-hosts along with Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

During my last trip to Paris I came across a jewelry collection designed by Delfina Delettrez. She is a young artist who creates jewelry inspired by human anatomy.

Probably not many women would decide to wear this kind of jewelry but I find it interesting and worth writing a few words. In her jewelry collection you will find shapes resembling various body parts like eyes, hands or lips. She is inspired by books of famous anatomist of the XVIth century Andreas van Vessel and her jewelry collections resume the humor of Tim Burton’s movies like “Nightmare before Christmas” or “Corpse Bride”.

Kelly Bensimon, one of the stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York reality series, also known for beating her boyfriend Nick Stefanov, has been now sued by another NY jewelry designer for stealing the huge owl pendant, Bensimon frequently wears and sells for $325 a piece in her jewelry line.

According to the press Celeste Greenberg and Kelly Bensimon started together an owl-design inspired jewelry line, but when the business took off Kelly cut Celeste out of the picture. According to Page Six a source revealed that, "Kelly has been hawking the owl on her Bravo show, on the talk-show circuit, and in a bunch of magazines."

Meanwhile a rep for Bensimon defended her against Greenberg's claim, responding to Page Six, "This girl used to work at Elle Accessories with Kelly. Kelly went out of her way to book her for freelance gigs. They went their separate ways. Now she's coming after her because she needs money and Kelly's name is in the press. There's no validity to this. They never had an agreement about anything."
