This is probably the most expensive carpet in the world. Studded with diamonds, pearls, rubies and emeralds is worth around $20 million, according to Henry Howard-Sneyd, the Sotheby's Deputy Chairman for Europe and Asia.

The carpet was crafted in XIX th century as a gift for the tomb of the Prophet Mohammad in Medina, Saudi Arabia. It took hundreds of craftsmen over five years to complete, and they used over two million seed pearls and colored stones to create the stunning design.

The carpet will be auctioned on March 18th during Sotheby’s auction in Doha, Qatar.

Astrology

Those who believe in astrology say it works. They claim that the stars and planets have huge influence on our life. We should pay special attention to the arrangement of planets and stars when making important decisions. Many big financial institutions and banks turn to the stars to predict future trends, economy and markets.

In England seemingly conservative British institutions such as City investments funds and high street banks cooperate on regular basis with the growing network of astrologers. Christeen Skinner, one of the astrologers says “Most academics distrust astrology and regard it as mumbo-jumbo (…) The thing is, it works. Nobody's sure how it works but it does. Most of my clients are businesspeople who are very canny. If it didn't work for them, then why would they use it?” Skinner practices the heliocentric astrology. This astrology uses a map which contains the positions of the planets within the reference frame of the twelve signs of the zodiac. Each planet plays a different role and influences individually our way of thinking and behavior. For example Mercury usually has good influence on communication. However, a few times per year Mercury slows down in its orbit around the Sun, creating an illusion of backward movement. When Mercury is in retrograde, communication can seem to slow down, misfire or go haywire with missed calls and technological snafus. This is why there’s a warning against signing contracts or starting a project during Mercury retrograde.

Many world leaders and military figures are known to plan their lives and campaigns to avoid Mercury’s influence. Ronald Reagan and Boris Yeltsin would only travel and hold press conferences when the planets, specifically Mercury, dictated. Hitler notably failed to take into account Mercury's influence. He launched the Battle of Britain and planned Operation Sealion - the invasion of Britain - just as Mercury turned retrograde. Both mistakes dealt serious blows to his plans for world domination.

On the other hand some scientists doubt that planets have influence over us. Dr Percy Seymour, from Plymouth University, has his own theory of how this inexact science might work. He believes that low-frequency magnetic fields emanating from the sun interact with those of the earth, which in turn affect the functioning of the human brain. "The magnetic field of the sun can be affected by the movement and position of the planets," he says. "Having said all that, I don't believe that the cosmos controls us, but it can influence us."
