Media reported last week that Orlando Bloom is the latest celebrity victim of jewelry thieves. In May, Lindsay Lohan’s home was burglarized and last December thieves stole $2 million worth of jewelry from Paris Hilton’s home. Hayden Panettiere known for playing Claire Bennet on the NBC television series Heroes was also a victim of home burglary and lost $15,000 worth of jewelry and some personal items.

This time the thieves got away with $500,000 of Bloom’s jewelry, some cash and artwork. Officers were called to the Pirates of the Caribbean star's home in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening, after one of the actor's relatives found the home had been broken into, police spokeswoman Tenesha Dobine said. Dobine declined to provide further comment and right now the police is looking for the robbers.

Christie Brinkley, the 80’s top supermodel, best known for her appearances on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, long-running contract with Covergirl and being the ex-wife of Billy Joel is now launching a jewelry line called CeleBrate.

Brinkley has partnered with multi-channel retailer Ross-Simons and according to a press release, her line was designed to "celebrate" creativity, joy, and optimism. The jewelry line includes nearly 100 pieces featuring everything from feminine floral motifs, to bold, southwestern-style turquoise, to elegant gold peace signs shining with diamonds. "I'm excited to bring my ideas and personality to the line," Brinkley stated. The collection, she says, "is appealing to the everyday woman - affordable and stylish."

Darrell Ross, president and CEO of Ross-Simons, is thrilled to be the exclusive retailer for The Christie Brinkley Jewelry Collection - and believes that the timing is opportune. "We're delighted to be Christie's exclusive partner for her jewelry line - and we believe that it will exceed all expectations," he said.

Louis Vuitton revealed yesterday the 2009 Winter / Fall Collection at the Paris Fashion Week. Sarah Mower, a long time writer for Style.com describes the collection as very womanly and warm in colors.

“Marc Jacobs ended the season at Louis Vuitton in Paris as he began it with his own show in New York: with the eighties. Different city, different accent, though, and this slice of the late eighties—ruffled, ruched, and poufed as it was—looked as if Jacobs had pulled out his 1987 magazines and worked up a playful homage to Christian Lacroix. He didn't quite put it that way backstage, however. Jacobs said that, partly in preparation for the Model as Muse exhibition at the Met and his role as honorary chair of the opening gala, he was thinking of "all those great French muses of the late eighties." Specifically, he cited Marie Seznec (who modeled for Lacroix), Victoire de Castellane (who worked for Chanel), and Inès de la Fressange (who was virtually French fashion mascot in chief at the time).

Looking back on those days of chichi fashion extremes brought out a lot of jeune Parisienne frivolity in the clothes, if not the staging, which was done, pseudo-salon style, without a runway (albeit in a large transparent tent parked, as usual, in a courtyard of the Louvre). The chance of a close inspection revealed lots of puffy peplum jackets, tons of shirring and ruching (in print or leather), bubble skirts, bejeweled satin leggings, and a mini lace Marie Antoinette pannier dress with a saucy sheer balconette. Jacobs' take on big shoulders ran from grosgrain bow-smothered balloon puffs to the widest short coats (in camel or red) on any runway—almost as broad as they were long.

It was also a rich accessory fest for the leather goods company. Leather necklaces and belts came fashioned like paper chains, and thigh boots were topped with ruffles and balanced on pearl and glitter-covered heels. The all-important bags had also acquired eighties pie-crust frills and gilded monograms. If it wasn't quite the fashion tour de force of Vuitton's Spring collection, this penultimate show of an often dour and cautious season read as a welcome interlude of cheerful, flirty confidence in a post-crash depression."

What To Wear This Fall

Fall Fashion

Probably you are not thinking about fall fashion yet but the truth is that fashion houses presented their new collections weeks ago along with fashion magazines which published catwalk supplements also a while ago. But don’t worry, there is still plenty of time to prepare for the season and stock up.

This fall season belongs to leather, specifically biker jackets. They usually go very well with any outfit and add some attitude to your appearance. Minimalism is back. Labels such as Jil Sander and Bottega Venta set new trends with plain-fitted dresses. If you prefer trousers look for tailored designs. Fall-backs of Jeans, straightlegs and drainpipes are not trendy anymore. This fall look for high-waisted and short-legged trousers that need to be worn with high heels and tucked-in tops.

Don’t forget about accessories, especially about jewelry. Look for silver designs and warm colors. Long necklaces matched with earrings and bracelets are the best. Take your pick form Amberdesire.com. Amber in Motion Necklace would be the perfect choice.

Exercise If You Smoke

A recent article published in Los Angeles Times brings up very important information for women smokers.

Although we all know that smoking is really bad for you, somehow it is very difficult to quit. So, if you are a smoker and still haven’t quit there are some things you should do to alleviate effects of smoking.

Dr. Robert Sallis from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana says: “If you can’t stop smoking, exercise will mitigate some of the effects”. Lung cancer which is primary cause of death in females right after heart diseases is a great example. Smoking increases significantly risk of the disease but exercise seems to provide a protective effect.

Study conducted in 2006 showed that women who were current or former smokers and exercised regularly were less likely to develop lung cancer than those who didn’t. Dr. Stanton Glantz from division of cardiology at UC San Francisco says: “When you exercise, that improves your cardiovascular function and your HDL cholesterol, and generally, it is good for you. (…) So if you smoke and exercise, you’re going to be better off than if you smoke and don’t exercise”. He also adds: “The balance is going to depend on how much you smoke and how much you exercise. But I can tell you unequivocally that people would be better marathoners if they didn’t smoke”.

But the best thing of course is to quit.

Carla Bruni

In the latest Vanity Fair, exclusive photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz shows Carla Bruni-Sarkozy climbing on to the roof of the Elysee Palace in a blood-red, strapless dress. She is portrayed, beautiful as ever, her hair trailing in the Paris breeze, the Eiffel Tower in the distance, sauntering sexily down the stepped roof of the palace as if she were on the catwalk, or the stage at a pop concert.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy continues to take French public life into startlingly new territory. Her third folk-pop album, now in its third week at the top of the French charts, contains explicit references to sex and drugs of a kind which would have been banned in France two decades ago. Most people don't seem to mind very much though. This summer, the words of "Tu es ma came" (You are my dope) can be heard on every beach and in every camping site and traffic jam in France – sung by the President's wife. President Sarkozy married Carla Bruni in February, four months after divorcing his second wife. So much has happened since then that it is useful to stop and recall just how odd the situation is. The right-wing President is married to a left-wing pop singer, and he wants to restore Catholicism to the heart of French life, while Carla Bruni, the former girlfriend of Mick Jagger, sings of sex and drugs.

France's first lady, who is Italian , says in an interview this week her principal role model is American Jackie Kennedy. "She [Jackie] was so young and modern, and of course unconsciously I would project myself more like Jackie Kennedy than, for instance, Mme de Gaulle, the classical French woman behind her husband." Carla also says she would never allow herself to be photographed ladling soup for her husband at the Elysee Palace, as France's first post-war first lady, Yvonne de Gaulle, was.

In many ways, the comparison – though invited by Carla Bruni – is a false one. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is a much more assured operator than Jackie Kennedy. France's First Lady is someone who has lived in the media glare all her life and knows which way to turn to best advantage, in both photographs and interviews.
