Harrods Gold Offer

20 Oct 2009 In: Gadget

With prices of gold hitting record high the London’s famous department store Harrods is now offering gold bars for sale. This new gold offer is a result of recent collaboration with the Swiss refiner Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux which offers gold bars weighing 27.5 pounds ( 12.5 kilograms). Customers can also buy online and then collect their purchase in person. A full-sized gold bar would cost about $466,000, and those who don't have a place to store it can also arrange for a safe deposit box, vault or international service courier.

"The financial environment has kindled a new demand for physical gold amongst private investors in Britain (…) Up until now, however, London has had no well-recognized name serving this market " said Chris Hall, head of Harrods Gold Bullion.

Mehdi Bakhordar, managing director of Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux, said Harrods was the only location in London where investors could buy a 27.5 pound (12.5 kg) gold bar "off the shelf."

Many investors believe gold is the safest option right now to invest money.

Those who didn’t watch the 2009 Emmy awards missed quite a show of fashion and jewelry presented on the red carpet this year. Drew Barrymore made a great impression wearing a blush Monique Luhllier gown and South Sea pearl stud earrings matched with 18-karat white-gold ring featuring a 12.5-millimeter South Sea pearl surrounded by 26 round diamonds from Anna Hu.

Mad Men's leading female cast opted for diamond jewelry and designer dresses. January Jones chose Versace dress and Neil Lane diamond jewels including diamond leaf bracelet with diamond drop earrings set in platinum. Blake Lively stepped on red carpet in a matching red Versace dress and 22-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond studs. Christina Hendricks sported beautiful pendant earrings with rose-cut diamonds and a cushion-cut black-diamond ring by Fred Leighton and Elizabeth Moss showed off her Chopard cushion-cut diamond earrings paired with two cushion-cut diamond bracelets.

Big Love actress Jeanne Tripplehorn looked very nice in pailette-studded dress accessorized with very minimal jewelry. Pregnant Heidi Klum wore 90 carats in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry including black diamond drop earrings, bracelet and a ring. Outstanding actress Glenn Close showed her love for color and chose rose-cut diamond and platinum pendant earrings while Toni Collette adorned her wrist with diamond and jade bracelet.

Unfortunately necklaces in general were not popular that night. Ginnifer Goodwin and Hayden Panettiere were among a few wearing a necklace. Panettiere chose a unique 19th-century snake necklace featuring old mine-cut diamonds from Fred Leighton and Goodwin dressed in purple Yves Saint Laurent gown with Brian Atwood black sandals selected Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry's 18-karat rose-gold and emerald-shaped rock-crystal necklace, finished off with a ring.

And as they say…pictures say more than words, so here we go...

British singer Lily Allen is following footsteps of her American famous friends and is launching a jewelry line. The jewelry collection is called Lily Allen and features pieces like medallions, fruits, poodles and coins.

Allen told Vogue UK: "I'm really pleased with all of the designs, we worked hard on getting them exactly how we wanted them from choosing the right chain length and thickness to deciding what should be in gold and what looks better in silver. I do love the animals though - the pandas are fantastic."

The jewelry line will officially launch in the fall.

Kelly Bensimon who was accused of stealing owl pendant design from NY jewelry designer announced her plans to launch her “own” jewelry line soon.

Bensimon, told W Magazine that while she doesn't have jewelry design experience, she credits her mother, extensive traveling and her ex with her jewelry know-how. "I love Navajo and I love the idea of taking Pocahontas out of the kayak and putting her into the disco," Kelly told W.
"Everyone knows that she's had enough in her little canoe and now she's out and having fun in the disco. It's the idea that it's Navajo, but also it's pavé and really, pavé that's my forte. I love bling. I love understated flashy."

The jewelry line includes earrings, fashion necklaces, cuffs and rings and will be available in stores in two weeks.

Kevin Jonas, the oldest of Jonas Brothers proposed last week to his girlfriend Danielle Deleasa. The young artist designed the engagement ring by himself with some help of celebrity jeweler, Jacob & Co. The $75,000 platinum ring is set with a three-carat, cushion-cut diamond and 210 round pave diamonds.

"He had done his homework. He knew exactly what he wanted," the company's president, Angela Arabo, told People magazine. "When he got the ring, he called me and said it was the most beautiful ring and it was exactly how he imagined. He was really excited. He couldn't wait to propose to her", Arabo added.

The happy couple celebrated their engagement with 30 close friends and family at an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles over the weekend, including Kevin's younger brothers Nick and Joe.

The Tony Awards evening is not only a spectacular show on a stage but also a show of latest fashion and glamorous jewelry trends.

This year ladies presented beautiful jewelry in different shapes and styles. Marcia Gay Harden - the Best Actress in a Play-winner sported stunning chandelier earrings and Gina Gershon walked the red carpet in Zuhair Murad gown and vintage Fred Leighton jewelry. Glamorous Anne Hathaway accessorized her Oscar de la Renta dress with diamond cluster earrings and Edie Falco decided to go classic with colored pearls earrings. Martha Plimpton and Josefina Scaglione showed their support for green wearing elegant emerald earrings.

Trendy over-sized statement necklaces were also seen on the red carpet this year. Laura Benanti adorned her neckline with bibb-like necklace fashioned from elements resembling flowers and leaves. Tony nominee Stockard Channing wore a medallion style ruby necklace that resembles jewelry from the romantic period of the nineteenth century.

The Annual Tony Awards is one of those events which makes the fashion experts’ hearts beat faster. The 63rd Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards were held this year at the Radio City Music Hall in New York. Stars and celebrities walked the red carpet dressed in designer gowns posing gladly for photographers and TV cameras.

Black color was chosen by many female stars including Hope Davis, Jane Fonda, Karen Olivo, Stockart Channing. I think the most stunning was Anna Hathaway in black Oscar de la Renta dress with a feather-print sheer skirt accessorized with simple jewelry.

Nancy La Scala wore a Malandrino Spring 2009 nude gown, with a multi chain detail draping from the neckline. Marcia Gay Harden accepted the reward for Best leading actress in a play wearing emerald green Carmen Marc Valvo’s Fall 2009 Couture strapless mermaid gown and Alice Ripley who was rewarded for Best leading actress in a musical chose a bold electric blue gown, resembling a little bit Kate Winslet’s Narciso Rodriguez gown she wore for SAG Awards.

Gina Gershon looked sexy and elegant in Zuhair Murad pleated gown and Fred Leighton antique jewelry. Laura Benanti selected a long navy-toned strapless gown paired with a nice silver clutch and a massive necklace. Josefina Scaglione’s opted for simple and elegant dress designed by Jason Wu. Edie Falco’s chose Nicole Miller’s gown with contrasting gold hem. Not too bad but not the best choice. And Jessica Lange looked beautiful in fuchsia Zac Posen gown, with a cascading ruffled detail.

Last week in New York many celebrities showed up at the Chelsea Art Museum glittering in gold to participate in the Gold Council's 'Leaves of Change' auction.
