Since it is Mother’s Day on Sunday, let us talk about mothers and babies---baby names that is.
Isabella became the top name for girls and Jacob is still the top name for boys, according to the Social Security Administration. Isabella beat up Emma after a one-year reign, while Jacob is still the number one for---get this---11 years.
Now, I think you know why Isabella and Jacob have topped the baby names for this year. If not, here’s a clue: according to the author of "The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book" Jennifer Moss, “"Anything can influence baby names, from pop culture to literature to music and celebrities”. Now, I think you know.
It seems the trend of “Twilight” has helped in making these two names reach their number one spots. For all those who still do not know, Isabella is the full name of Bella, the lead female star in the vampire series, while Jacob is the second male lead, the werewolf, and the guy who falls in love with Bella. Even when Jacob is the number one baby name for boys for 11 years, it is possible that having the name in the series and the “New Moon” movie emphasizing on Jacob Black helped Jacob retain its number one spot.
Aside from Isabella and Jacob, another “Twilight” name was seen rising from its spot: Edward Cullen. Being one of the lead characters and Bella’s vampire boyfriend, Edward has risen “up 11 spots, to No. 137 on the list, and Cullen was the biggest riser among boys' names, up 297 spots to No. 485”, according to the SSA.
Here’s what the Social Security Administration has to say about these baby names:
"People seem to be a little bit more creative, inventive and flexible with their daughters' names," said Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue. "With boys, I think we tend to be a little bit more consistent. The names don't change quite as much."
These simple, yet unique names are perfect for mothers who are “Twilight” fans and want to name their babies after the characters----without the complication of pronouncing and spelling them.
The First Family’s names have also been part of the top baby names, but were, of course, beaten by the “Twilight” names. No wonder. “Twilight” is more popular than the First Family nowadays.
