Last Monday the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was the home of 2009 Met Costume Institute Gala. This fashion event is what the Oscars are to film. The big night hosted by Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs and Justin Timberlake attracted an ultra-glamorous crowd of models, movie stars and celebrities.

Kate Moss rocked the golden goddess trend in a spectacular one-shouldered gown by designer Marc Jacobs, a matching turban and Harry Winston jewels. Victoria Beckham chose a polka-dot Marc Jacobs frock and Gisele showed her legs in a very short Versace dress. Jessica Biel, Heidi Klum and Kate Beckinsale opted for the Cinderella silhouette. Blake Lively in Versace, Liv Tyler in Stella McCartney, and Jessica Alba in Jason Wu looked glamorous in blue gowns accessorized with emerald and diamond jewelry.

The 2009 Gala opened the “Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” exhibition presenting the iconic models of the twentieth century and their roles in projecting, and sometimes inspiring, the fashion of their respective eras. The exhibition, organized by historical period from 1947 to 1997, will feature haute couture and ready-to-wear masterworks accompanied by fashion photography and video footage of models who epitomized their epochs.
