With all the fawning over first ladies, I’ve decided it’s time to honor the real women of politics. I’m talking about the ladies that make laws, make changes, and make a difference all while being fashionable and looking great. Here are some of these foxy feminists:

Ségolène Royal

Ségolène is the president of the Poitou-Charentes Regional Council in France, a former member of the National Assembly and a prominent member of the French Socialist Party. She is the first woman in France to be nominated by a major party and she was the Socialist candidate in the 2007 French presidential election but lost to Nicolas Sarkozy on 6 May, 2007. Fashion wise, Ségolène is extremely feminine and neat; she is a fan of Paule Ka and is renowned for her soft colors and white jackets. She is also a minimalist in jewelry, usually wearing only a strand of pearls.

Cristina Kirchner

Cristina is the current president of Argentina and a former first lady. She was ranked as #13 in Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the world. Known for her politics as well as her massive shoe collection, she loves her her designer suits, spiky heels, and glamorous make-up. Hailed as the next Evita, Cristina is definitely a style icon for her country.

Toiréasa Ferris

At only 26 years of age, Toiréasa Ferris became the first female Mayor of Kerry and first Sinn Féin Chairperson of Kerry County Council. On 18 October 2008 she was selected as an MEP candidate in the upcoming European Parliament elections in 2009 for the South constituency. Toiréasa gave an interview to Vote Couture and revealed her style as a JC Penny and TJ Maxx loving girl which is a breath of fresh air from the designer crazy women that are always in the public eye. She describes her power outfit as a black pencil skirt, ruffle shirt, and cute pair of heels.

Sarah Palin

Sarah is the eleventh and current Governor of the U.S. state of Alaska and was the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee for the 2008 United States presidential election, on the ticket with Senator John McCain. Sarah’s rimless glasses, high heels and secretarial-like hairstyle are becoming popular across the country. Often wearing heels made by Naughty Monkey, Sarah wore pantsuits and pencil skirts and looked gorgeous in everything.

Yulia Tymoshenko

Yulia is a Ukrainian politician and the current Prime Minister of Ukraine. She is the leader of the All-Ukrainian Union party and the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. Before her political career, Yulia was a successful businesswoman in the gas industry. She is most known for her signature braid. Yulia wears white to show her purity in the face of what she has called a corrupt political and business culture. She is a Chanel fan and is constantly in heels. She is hailed as a trendsetter in her country.
