Bored of traditional cooking this summer? The easiest way to spice up your kitchen's menu is to try ingredients and easy meals from other countries (maybe even unexplored areas of your own). Get a taste of culture cooking with these simple recipes:

A savory German favorite, Wienerschnitzel:

This is a dish of breaded veal cutlets which can go well with brown gravy, potatoes, and greens. To begin, pound the veal thin and cover with flour. Next you’ll dip the floured veal into a mixture of eggs, parmesan cheese and other seasonings, and press them into bread crumbs. Let them set, then simply brown in butter or oil.

A simple island dish, Ropa Vieja:

Popular in Cuba, this dish is simply shredded flank steak cooked in a tomato-ey broth. If you have a slow cooker, this recipe will taste so fresh and juicy with little to no work involved. Just fry a flank steak over medium heat to brown the sides, then place in the slow cooker. Surround with beef broth, tomato sauce, onions, peppers and garlic. Add vinegar, oil, and tomato paste, and season with cumin and cilantro. After several hands-free hours of cooking, the steak will be ready to serve over rice, with a few extra veggies.

The Greeks’ Burger, Bifteki:

This dish combines classic Greek flavors with the idea of a cheeseburger. Begin by mixing yogurt with ground beef, adding salt, pepper and thyme. From this mixture, form patties. Place a feta cheese slice between two of the meat patties, and pinch the ends closed to seal in the cheese. Repeat. Then you’ll grill with a little oil for about 20 minutes and you’re set to serve!
