Once called the Beaux Arts Building, the one century-old landmark in Salt Lake City, Utah has just reopened as the O.C. Tanner Store, a premier jewelry retailer. According to Carolyn Tanner Irish, chair of the Board of Directors at O.C. Tanner Company, opening a store in such a location was a dream of her father’s, who was the company’s former chair.

The grand and beautiful building re-opened Thursday after a short period of vacancy. Once a Public Library, and then a Planetarium until 2003, this Salt Lake City gem has finally opened as a store that will feature the designs of many recognizable lines, like Roberto Coin and Wellendorf. The cost of the building, including refurbishing, was nearly $25 million. It’s no wonder, as the space includes impressive maple ceilings and other elegant wooden features.

Who is O.C. Tanner? These popular retail jewelers have had their newest location in the works for two years now. They’ve also helped put to use one of the city’s most beloved historic places, which had begun to decay from vacancy. For the store’s celebrated openings, they have commissioned designer Angela Cummings to create a special floral necklace.

A few other stunning features that you can find inside include, 3,000 hand-blown glass leaves, a modern three-story spiral staircase, and a wall made of glass and stone with a laser-etched historic mural. Of course, O.C. Tanner has also retained some of the original structural elements which make this downtown location so unique.
