“Toy Story 3” and Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups” are hot in the box-office charts, but looks like it’s not with Tom Cruise’s action film “Knight and Day” and even started at---get this---number 8! “Killers”, starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Hiegel, even beat it with already three weeks being shown in theaters.

According to Yahoo! Movies, “Toy Story 3” remained at No.1 with $59 million on its 2nd week, followed by Sandler’s “Grown Ups” with $41 million on its first weekend. “Knight and Day”, on the other hand, at only $20.5 million, which was just shown last week. Despite the heavy marketing push that 20th Century Fox did by having sneak peak screenings a week earlier and a Wednesday debut, the studio still has a long road ahead if they need to get back the production budget of over $107 million.

Critics say the reason why Cruise did not rule the box office was that audiences haven’t forgotten his couch-jumping in The Oprhah Winfrey Show, where he professed his love for Katie Holmes. That, and of course, him being vocal about his support in Scientology. With these events in the minds of the public in seeing Cruise, it’s no wonder that “Knight and Day” is his worst action film debut to date.

No, this does not mean it’s the end of Tom Cruise. Hell, I don’t even know if there will be an end to Tom Cruise. It’s just that people still have not forgotten what he did and it will tale a long time for the public to forget.

"He's one of the biggest stars of all time, but no question, this has impacted him," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "It's not like it's irrevocable or unchangeable. Look at all the stars who have been jailed or caught in compromising sexual situations and then came back. Many stars do recover. It just may take a lot of time for him."

Hopefully, the next time Cruise will do an action movie (or any movie at all), the incident will be forgotten and he’ll have nothing to worry about.
