Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to jail for 90 days by a judge, as well as in-patient rehab program, because of a probation violation in her 2007 drug case. Lohan burst into tears after the ruling was sentenced.
The sentence was decided when Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel listened to the testimonies of the employees of alcohol treatment program that the actress was supposed to attend. They said that she missed seven classes since December. Despite Lohan’s apology, in tears, the judge still decided to push through with sentence, seeing that her apology was “insincere”.
"I did do everything I was told to do and did the best I could to balance jobs and showing up," Lohan told the judge. "It wasn't vacation, it wasn't some sort of a joke."
Not even a bucket of tears could make the judge change her mind as the apology for her was like “somebody who cheats and thinks it isn't cheating if she doesn't get caught."
The actress was permitted to surrender on July 20 instead of being taken into custody in order to fix their personal and work affair before going to jail. Until then, she still has to wear an ankle alcohol monitor.
Her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, urged the judge to just place her on probation instead of jail as she has “learned her lesson and improved”. But still, to no avail and some prosecutors had even sided with the judge, saying that when the actress is ordered to go on probation, “it didn’t catch her attention”.
Oh Lohan, Lohan…what’s next? Will this ever end?
