After many months of speculation, Lionsgate has finally completed its young lead cast for the best selling novel-turned-movie “The Hunger Games”.

Josh Hutcherson has been cast as the teen combatant Peeta Mellark while Liam Hemsworth will play as Gale, Katniss’ loyal friend. Lionsgate announced the new male leads today in a press release as they gear up for the new hot trilogy based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book series. The two leading men will be joining Oscar nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, who will play the leading lady and the story’s protagonist Katniss Everdeen.

Hutcherson was known for his role in the Oscar-nominated movie “The Kids Are Alright” while Hemsworth recently starred with Miley Cyrus in “The Last Song”. Lawrence, on the other hand, was recently known for her great performance in the Oscar nominated film “Winter’s Bone” last year.

“The Hunger Games” is a story about a post-apocalyptic future where twelve boys and twelve girls have to fight each other to the death in a yearly reality television show called The Hunger Games.

I am excited for this movie because I’m a fan if the books. Though I’m good with Hutcherson as Peeta and Lawrence as Katniss, I’m not sure with Hemsworth as Gale. I didn’t imagine Gale as Hemsworth. But, it’s too early to judge and hopefully they’ll stay true to the book’s characters because the book is too amazing to be ruined in the film. I can’t wait for next year to see “The Hunger Games” in the big screen.
