Just when the bill for marriage equality in New York passed, a number of celebrities wasted no time celebrating the news. Among them was actor and singer Neil Patrick Harris, who has been in a long term relationship with partner David Burtka for many years. The two recently adopted twins. The actor and his boyfriend proposed to each other, but told media outlets that they in fact, have been engaged for over five years, and were waiting for a date when gays could legally wed. They were overjoyed by the passing of this historic bill and were tweeting about it online all day. Among others who celebrated the bill were actors Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, who jokingly proposed to one another over Twitter (before Steve Martin realized he was already married!), pop superstar Lady Gaga, who has been campaigning for LGBT rights for years, and famously gay actors and singers such as Cheyenne Jackson, Lance Bass and Ricky Martin. Ellen DeGeneres, Lindsay Lohan and Katy Perry were among the other famous people to celebrate the passing of this bill. This is truly a great occasion. Let’s hope that the rest of the world grants marriage equality to all.
